Wanya Marçal, Silko Thomas and Kian Pennant got the goals at Motspur Park to end a six-game losing streak and send City's youngsters up to 16th in Premier League 2.

It's been a tough start to the new campaign for the Club's Under-21s outfit, but hard work and dedication to their methods offers hope that a positive run of form is around the corner.

"It’s a great response from the lads," Petty said after this win over Fulham. "We’ve found the last few weeks really difficult, but saying that, we’ve taken the lead in four out of the five [league] games that we’ve lost.

"We know we have goals in us and it was about defending better, more resolutely, and as you can see tonight, I think it was well deserved. To a man, I thought we were excellent.

We got blocks in when we needed to and people were tracking their runners. That’s the part of the game that we need to improve on.

"The lads who came on as well were terrific. They really played to the plan. We know that Fulham were going to have a lot of possession. They’re a very, very good side, as their record suggests.

"We got blocks in when we needed to and people were tracking their runners. That’s the part of the game that we need to improve on and the lads are out on their feet in there, but that’s what it takes to win a game of football, so I’m delighted for them."

It's another trip to Fulham next up this coming Friday as the two sides renew rivalries, this time in the Premier League Cup, and Petty says his players will be prepared.

"It's a different competition next week, so a different challenge," Petty added. "We obviously didn’t get off to a great start with the Burnley game, but we’ll come here again well prepared and well rested and we’ll look forward to the game now."
