A Legacy For Khun Vichai – Special Documentary Available Now

On the evening of 27 October, 2018, Khun Vichai lost his life alongside pilots Eric Swaffer and Izabela Lechowicz, and staff members Nusara Suknamai and Kaveporn Punpare, in a helicopter accident outside King Power Stadium following a Premier League match with West Ham United.

Over eight years as Chairman, Khun Vichai’s ambition inspired the most magical era in City’s entire history. It was a time which saw the Foxes defy unthinkable odds to win the Premier League title and embark on an intrepid run in the UEFA Champions League, giving City supporters precious memories to savour forever. It wasn’t just on the pitch where Khun Vichai’s immeasurable impact was felt – our late Chairman showed deep affection for the people of Leicester during his life. 

Donating in excess of £4M to local causes, Khun Vichai’s adopted community felt his warmth and compassion – which revealed itself in a remarkable outpouring of grief following his tragic passing. A Legacy For Khun Vichai uncovers some of the emotional stories behind this philanthropic work in the region, visiting the children’s ward at Leicester Royal Infirmary, which has been transformed by a string of investments, ensuring the very best care for the city’s most vulnerable children. 

The 30-minute production also explains Khun Vichai’s personal support to the neonatal wards in Leicester and local charity Heartwize, plus how the Club’s former Chairman also helped Leicester Cathedral secure the funding it needed to reinter King Richard III with dignity and honour. That magnificent legacy lives on through the Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation, renamed in his honour in 2018 – with a commitment to bettering the lives of people in need across Leicestershire. 

Leicester City’s astonishing rise is also covered in detail, telling the tale of how the Foxes rose through the Championship to be crowned as English champions and topple some of Europe’s elite teams. Iconic former captains Wes Morgan and Kasper Schmeichel are among the contributors, as are Jamie Vardy and Marc Albrighton – all key figures of the world-famous LCFC fable.
