Cayman: A Collective Effort To Earn A Point

The Foxes earned a point in what was only their second draw of the season last weekend, when a goal in either half resulted in a draw with Spurs in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
Cayman opened the scoring after she converted a low cross from Hannah Cain, to score her second goal for the Club, having netted in the Arsenal defeat last weekend, but she was keen to praise her team-mates for the movement.
“It was a special game,” the Belgian international opened with. “I think we were better in the first half, and then Tottenham were probably better in the second. But I think a tie was the right score for the game.
“It was a nice collective action, getting the goal, but it’s always nice to score and it’s a game we need to learn from, to make sure we can see out the win.
“Hannah [Cain] and I work a lot on our movements together in practice during the week, so we just hope we can show it on matchday. I’m happy she’s always got a good delivery on her, and happy that I was able to finish it.
“She is a very talented player, with her speed she can always take players on, and she’s strong in the one vs. ones. She also has a very good cross with her left foot as you’ve seen this past week.
“She’s doing well, and we need her on the pitch, so we just need to keep doing what we’re doing.”
City’s No.11 believes it is a well-earned point, against a team that have started the season strongly, and is happy to be among the goals, considering she is usually deployed in defence and therefore not in a position to aim at the opposition’s net.
With a tough week coming up, including away trips to Manchester City and Chelsea, the 35-year-old explained how the team must take the positives from this game and continue to learn, should they want to take anything from their upcoming travels.
“Spurs have a solid defence, and they did a good job today,” Cayman added. “They’ve got speed at full-back as well to join the attack. They’re a very good team and with them heading into the fixture fourth in the league, I don’t think a draw is a bad result.
“It’s a difficult league, but that’s why I came here. In France you have a top three that usually remains at the top, but here, every game is competitive. You keep battling for points, and we’ll learn from this to keep progressing.
“I’m not usually on the scoresheet this much because they used me more defensively in the past, but it’s always good to score. As I said, it’s a collective action, but myself, I’m looking to have those runs from midfield and I’m pleased they’ve been paying off.
“We need to take it step by step. Today was Tottenham, next is Manchester City and then we have Chelsea. We need to make sure we stay fresh, but we are making progress.
“It’s not always going to be straight up, there will be dips, but on the whole, we’re going in the right direction and it’s another point which we can take forward.”
