The Foxes remain atop of the Sky Bet Championship, a point ahead of Ipswich Town, following Saturday’s emphatic triumph at King Power Stadium, with Stephy Mavididi’s brace, alongside goals from Patson Daka and Wilfred Ndidi, enough for Maresca’s men to claim another three points on home soil.

“I’m very happy because, first of all, we completely deserved it,” the Italian said after full-time on Filbert Way. "We were in complete control of the game apart from 10-15 minutes of the first half. But for me that is normal and we continue.

“Even with the ball in the first half, we conceded something, but we know how difficult it is and overall we completely deserved it.”

In the second half we were better in the way we pressed, we just adjusted at half-time.

For Maresca, the performance warranted the result, having been under some pressure from Steven Schumacher’s side at one point in the first half. City recovered well, though, and ultimately put the game beyond sight in the second period.

The 43-year-old continued: “They didn’t surprise us in terms of changing of players, they surprised us in terms of the way they moved and how they were playing in some ways. They moved a little bit different and tried to use their weapons.

“But in the second half we were better in the way we pressed. We just adjusted at half-time the way we pressed, nothing more than that, and it worked quite well in the second half. We were jumping to a wrong player, because they were moving in different ways than we expected from them.”

The Manager also provided some clarity on the absentees, with the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Jamie Vardy and Kasey McAteer all missing from the forward line.

“Kel (Kelechi Iheanacho) is ill,” he revealed. “Jamie [Vardy] had some problem and Macca (Kasey McAteer) has a muscular problem. I don’t think [they will be in contention for Millwall]. We’ll see but it’s difficult.”
