A strike in either half from the forward, on full debut, helped steer the Foxes to yet another three points at King Power Stadium on New Year’s Day. Captain Ricardo Pereira and Stephy Mavididi added the other goals and Cannon outlined the quality within the squad following his first start.

“I’m absolutely delighted,” he beamed following full-time on Filbert Way. “First and foremost, to get the three points is always the aim going into every game and to do that, the lads are delighted, everyone's happy.

“The competition for places is high and they're all good, very high-quality players. It's the Manager's decision at the end of the day, but all I can do is just keep going into training and show them what I'm made of, so I'll continue to do that. I've just got to keep my head down and to take the chances when they come.”

Finishing a sharp chance from the edge of the box to open his account shortly before the break, the attacker was composed in front of goal to complete his brace in the second period.

“It was just pure instinct,” the 21-year-old explained. “From what I remember, Ricky (Ricardo) has took a touch, probably a bit of a heavy touch, and then I've seen the chance to run onto it and just tuck it away. Instincts just took over and I kept my head down and got over it and luckily it went in.

Cannon 'Absoutely Delighted' With Maiden Goals

Tom Cannon spoke following his first two Leicester City strikes which helped the Foxes to victory over Huddersfield Town.

“Winksy (Harry Winks) played a lovely ball in behind (for the second). Those are the balls I love and then I just got my body across, which I always plan to do in them situations. It’s about keeping your composure and to tuck it away again was lovely.”

Increasing the gap at the top of the Sky Bet Championship to 10 points, following a win over Cardiff City in the final fixture of 2023, Cannon believes the team are reaping the rewards of a huge effort over the past few weeks.

“It's unbelievable,” the former Everton striker added. “From the facilities to the fans, to the players and the staff. The lads dug in deep over the Christmas period. Four games in 10 days, it's tough for any team. But to keep winning the way this team is, it really is good.”
