Cannon: Let's Keep Going

Forced to wait just under four months for his Foxes debut due to injury, the ex-Everton forward has hit the ground running for Enzo Maresca's Sky Bet Championship leaders. Cannon hit a brace in the 4-1 success over Huddersfield Town on New Year's Day before striking again in last weekend's 3-2 Emirates FA Cup success at Millwall

Eager for more, the Irishman knows the task at hand on Saturday is a tough one, with Mark Robins' Sky Blues winning their last three league matches. It promises to be a thrilling clash of two sides with their sights on the Premier League.

"The lads are delighted, it was a great way to start the New Year with the two wins, so we’ve just got to keep our heads down now and keep going," Cannon said in Seagrave this week.

"To be fair, I’m delighted with the way it’s started. I couldn’t have asked for much more, even though I could have had about three or four more maybe! I’m delighted to be helping the team out to keep winning.

Defeating Coventry On The Opening Day

A quick look back to the 2-1 success over Coventry City will got Leicester City's promotion charge underway.

"It was a nice way to come in and kick it off with the goals against Huddersfield. I’ve just got to keep going."

After a busy Christmas, with City picking up 19 points from a possible 21 in December, the schedule has eased in January. Weekly matches offer an opportunity for the players to recharge between each match - every one an opportunity for Leicester to add to their skyrocketing points tally.

The 21-year-old also discussed the bragging rights at stake at Coventry, with the home side looking to avenge a defeat at King Power Stadium on the opening weekend of this season.

"The Christmas period was hectic," Cannon admitted. "We were in every day. It’s nice that we’ve got a bit of recovery time and can spend time with our families.

The lads aren’t looking at the table. We’ve just got to keep setting out to win the three points each weekend and I’m sure it’ll hold us in good stead.

"The break in between each game gives us good time to recover and get some training under our belt to go and perform on Saturday. Going to The Den at Millwall is always a tough place to go.

"To get the win there, it’s good, and now we’re looking forward to the M69 Derby. Derbies are always fiery and intense. The fans will be up for it, so we’ve just got to play the way we play and try and silence the [home] fans a bit and I’m sure we’ll take care of the rest. We’ve just got to stick to it and try to get the three points."

Remaining calm and focused on the season's end goal is now crucial for the Foxes, Cannon says, as Maresca's men look for an immediate return to the top flight. They are currently 10 points clear of second-placed Ipswich Town.

"We’re literally just taking it game by game," he said. "The lads aren’t looking at the table. We’ve just got to keep setting out to win the three points each weekend and I’m sure it’ll hold us in good stead."
