City's Under-21s Beaten By Saints In PL2

The Leicester City Development Squad were narrowly beaten 2-1 in PL2 by Southampton on Monday evening at LCFC Training Ground.

A late strike from Tawanda Maswanhise wasn't enough to retrieve anything from Seagrave as a brace from Southampton's Luke Pearce meant the points would be heading to the south coast, leaving Leicester in the bottom half of the PL2 standings with nine points.

The Foxes headed into the fixture off the back of a 1-0 win against Fulham in the Premier League Cup, and looked to keep that momentum going in the league, but an early going in the 17th minute from Pearce gave City's youngsters an uphill battle.

Just before the hour mark, Pearce scored again, doubling Southampton's lead, but Leicester did well to keep persisting in the game, and created a nervy final 10 minutes for the Saints as substitute Maswanhise found the net.

Unfortunately for the Foxes, the whistle came before a leveller was found, and the Under-21s now prepare for another home fixture on Friday evening as they welcome Brentford in the Premier League Cup.

The details...

City: Young; Wormleighton, Cartwright (Joseph 68'), Godsmark-Ford, Cover; Ali (Grist 49'), Briggs, Ewing (Richards 59'), Raikhy, Thomas; Pennant (Maswanhise 59').

Unused subs: Doherty.

Goal: Maswanhise 83'
