As part of the Premier League’s More Than A Game campaign, highlighting the different PL investment makes to each club community organisation, a long-serving Community coach has been recognised.

Celebrating the impact Premier League funding has on each club community organisation, Leicester City in the Community put forward a Community Captain. A LCitC member of staff for over seven years, Tom has worked on multiple programmes and positively impacted hundreds of people.

During a surprise celebration at St Mary’s Fields Primary School, Tom said: “This comes as a shock; it is an honour and amazing to be recognised as a Community Captain for Leicester City in the Community.

The staff member was awarded the title of Club’s Community Captain at St Mary’s Fields Primary School.

“It is great to go work in our Primary Schools and give loads of different skillsets to pupils. I had no idea that’s why I have been visited today, I was surprised my Young Leaders kept it away from me.”

Working on many different programmes has enabled Tom to develop his coaching techniques and abilities over the years. This adaptability and flexibility has served him well, slowly but surely he has taken more and more responsibility within the organisation, progressing to the Coordinator of the biggest programme – PL Primary Stars.

As Leicester City in the Community’s Primary Stars Coordinator, he liaises with 18 partner schools, building strong rapports with each to ensure the school and Community get the best out of the partnership.

Tom has been working for Leicester City in the Community for seven years.

One person Tom has built a relationship with is St Mary’s Fields Primary School Headteacher Helen Nott, who was full of praise for Tom: “It is absolutely fantastic that Tom has won this award. We all appreciate his hard work here, so it is great recognition for him. The children and the staff absolutely love working with Tom.”

Tom is a competent and capable deliverer to many across our community - children and young people in particular. He is always reliable and flexible with his delivery, often being on hand to cover for staff that fall ill or are otherwise absent. Furthermore, Tom is helpful in other ways; he is our go-to staff for things relating to tech and data collection.

Around a third of Leicester City’s charitable arm funding comes directly from the Premier League through PL Kicks, Inspires and Primary Stars programmes. For more information on Leicester City in the Community, visit www.lcfc.com/community.
