Faes: We’re Remaining Confident

- The Foxes remain at the division’s summit by three points following three straight defeats

The Foxes were on the end of a 2-1 home defeat to Queens Park Rangers at King Power Stadium on Saturday, leaving Enzo Maresca’s men three points clear at the top of the Sky Bet Championship.

Faes’ centre-back partner Ben Nelson netted what proved to be a consolation on Filbert Way, as, despite dominating the game, Leicester suffered a third-straight league reverse for the first time this season. A trip to Sunderland’s Stadium of Light is up next on Tuesday evening, presenting an opportunity to get back on track in the North East.

“I think that it’s good that the game is arriving fast because we want to win again,” the defender said ahead of the 7:45pm kick-off. “That’s the only job we want to do.

“We had lots of possession (against QPR) but we have to be more clinical I think and try to finish our chances. It was a game where we tried to control and we did control most of it. But in the end, we don’t have any points.

“After this game the mood was down but that’s logical after losing again. But we have to be confident. We know where we are in the table and now we have to be mentally strong and go again on Tuesday evening.”

The Black Cats have themselves been out of form, losing four on the bounce, but will still hold hopes of claiming a play-off spot for the second successive campaign. That makes Mike Dodds’ side a dangerous opponent, especially on home soil. 

“It’s the same for us,” the Belgian explained. “It’s a game of two teams who are losing too much in the last games and are competing against each other. It’s going to be a big game in Sunderland. We’ll try to analyse them and the staff will prepare everything so we will know what to expect.”

City will stay calm in their own quest for promotion, the 25-year-old assured, welcoming the short period between Saturday’s fixture and the new focus of facing Sunderland.

He added: “I like it personally because we have a lot of games and you can turn the pages quickly if you lose and try and win games as fast as possible again. That’s the only job we have. We’ll try to rely on that and of course we know our qualities and we’ll try to go there and win the game.”
