The Foxes twice came from behind at MKM Stadium to earn a point on the road and remain top of the Sky Bet Championship. The gap to second currently stands at three points, while there’s a four-point stretch to third.

Coming up against Liam Rosenior’s side, who are chasing a top-six finish, Maresca expected a difficult test, and that’s exactly what Leicester were up against, having to fight back following goals from Fábio Carvalho and Anass Zahoury.

“It was a very tough game, as we expected,” the 44-year-old said post-match. “We said yesterday that they are a fantastic team. They are in a good moment. They’ve won many games and have beaten Southampton away so they are a very good team, quick and technical.

“We came here and tried to win the game. It was a mix but the performance was there; the effort from the players was unbelievable. Probably the pitch was not perfect for us but, overall, they gave everything.”

Jamie Vardy was at the double having scored in midweek to beat Sunderland, firstly converting a penalty before netting his second equaliser shortly after the Hull goal.

Speaking about the response to going a goal down, the Manager commented: “The action was very good and the reaction after the goal we conceded was very good too. That shows the players are there and ready to start again.

Not only today but all the season I’m very proud of all of them because every game we have given everything.

“It showed the desire from the players to win the game. But sometimes when you cannot win, you have to take the draw, so today we took the point. That in this moment is important.

“Not only today, but all the season, I’m very proud of all of them because every game we have given everything and today once again the effort was very good.”

The Foxes are not in league action again until Friday 29 March, travelling away to Bristol City, with an Emirates FA Cup Quarter Final, and the international window, to come in the next two weeks.

“Now they have two days off which they deserve completely,” the Italian added. “Then we have the FA Cup next weekend, we’re going to enjoy that there. And then finally, the international break, we can recover players and recover energy to go again.”
