We Needed To Be More Clinical, Says Foster

- Jutta Rantala and Lena Petermann scored City’s goals in the defeat
- The loss leaves Leicester ninth in the Barclays Women’s Super League
- We’ll assess this game and learn from it, says Jennifer Foster

The full-time whistle on Sunday afternoon announced Leicester’s defeat to the Seagulls at King Power Stadium, despite Jutta Rantala and Lena Petermann both finding the net in the second half.

Dealing with Brighton’s counter attacks proved to be difficult on Filbert Way, as Madison Haley, Katie Robinson and Elisabeth Terland secured the three points for the south coast club.

“I’m in disbelief that we’ve lost to be honest,” Foster voiced. “We were on top for large parts of the first half and we need to capitalise on those moments when we are on top.

“We didn’t do that, and look, we knew Brighton’s threats on the transition and today we weren’t good enough at dealing with them.”

The Assistant Manager spoke about the positive influence of Japanese forward Yuka Momiki, who registered an assist last weekend, but admits there are key lessons to be learned as City look to climb back up the table.

“All the January signings have been important, but Yuka [Momiki] did well when we found her in the pocket, and she created chances for us,” Foster continued. “Had we have been a bit more clinical; we might’ve won.

“[Sophie] Baggaley made a great save at the end, but overall, I don’t think we were good enough on the transition and you can see from the team afterwards, it’s a tough one to take.”

The next test for the Foxes sees them travel to Poundland Bescot Stadium to take on seventh-placed Aston Villa this Saturday afternoon (12:30pm GMT kick-off).

Foster stated that the focus remains on the Villans and confirmed that the Adobe Women’s FA Cup Semi-Final against Tottenham Hotspur will be looked at following their next WSL match, during the international break.

She added: “We said that this week and last week was a must win, so it puts even more pressure on next weekend (against Aston Villa). But I know the group will deal with it. We’ll go away and assess this game and learn from it.

“Our focus has to be on Villa and make sure our performance is good enough next weekend before we look to the game after the break (an FA Cup Semi-Final against Tottenham).

“Right now we’re focusing on the league and making sure we can climb back up it, we’ve had some unfortunate results and I think we were unlucky today, because for large parts we were on top.”
