Daka Scores & Ward's Wales Are Beaten For EURO 2024 Spot

Thirteen Leicester players made an appearance on Tuesday's global stage, including Patson Daka scoring for Zambia and Danny Ward losing out on penalties for a spot in EURO 2024, while Harry Souttar's Australia progressed in World Cup qualification.

Harry Souttar kickstarted things off on Tuesday’s international stage when he started and played his part in a big 5-0 win for Australia against Lebanon at GIO Stadium Canberra.

Craig Goodwin of Al Wedha scored twice in the victory that resulted in the Socceroos' progress in World Cup qualification, topping Group I with a maximum 12 points from four games.

Patson Daka was among the headlines for Zambia who surpassed Malawi, as the Leicester striker netted within the first 15 minutes in friendly action at Bingu National Stadium.

Tuesday evening also saw a big clash happening at Cardiff City Stadium between Wales and Poland, fighting it out for the final spot at EURO 2024 via the play-offs.

Shot-stopper Danny Ward played the full 120 minutes, which ended goalless after extra-time, but Wales fell to defeat in a 5-4 penalty shootout, with Daniel James seeing his decisive spot-kick saved.

Belgium international Wout Faes made a late appearance at Wembley as the Red Devils were forced to accept a late draw in the London. Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham scored a stoppage-time goal to leave the scores standing at two goals apiece.

Following a goal in his previous game, Ben Nelson was rewarded with a start against Czech Republic for the England Elite League Squad.

The Foxes defender played the full game and watched from the back as England ran out 3-1 winners at Metský Stadion, a fixture in which young Tottenham Hotspur striker Dane Scarlett scored twice.

Abdul Fatawu, meanwhile, was in action in the afternoon at Stade de Marrakech, where Ghana drew 2-2 with Uganda, after being pegged back twice.

The winger played more than 90 minutes, before being replaced in injury time, while Crystal Palace’s Jordan Ayew was involved in both Black Stars’ goals; scoring a penalty kick before assisting Jerome Opoku.

Elsewhere in Europe, Turkey fell to a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Austria. Yunus Akgün started on the bench and was introduced after a hour, but couldn’t affect the final result as SC Freiburg’s striker Michael Gregoritsch scored three.

The Leicester City Development Squad also had several players in action, one of which was Tawanda Maswanhise, who was a second-half substitute in Zimbabwe’s 3-1 defeat to Kenya, Michael Olunga netting a hat-trick for the Kenyans.

Denmark were also playing in friendly action when they met the Faroe Islands at Brøndby Stadion; Jannik Vestergaard got a full game under his belt while Mads Hermansesn was an unused substitute.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre Emile-Højbjerg opened the scoring before Mohamed Daramy confirmed the victory from the bench in a 2-0 victory.

Wout Faes made a substitute appearance at Wembley on Friday evening.

There was a big win for England Under-21s on Tuesday who beat Luxembourg 7-0 to remain second in Group F with 18 points from seven games, as they look to qualify for the UEFA U21 European Championships.

Callum Doyle began on the bench but was brought on in the 75th minute to replace Samuel Iling-Junior, who had scored a brace on the night, as did Chelsea’s Noni Madueke.

More of City’s youngsters were in action for Wales Under-21s in the form of Oli Ewing and Chris Popov, who were named in the starting line-up against Morocco but were beaten 2-0.

The final game of the evening saw Nigeria beaten 2-0 by Mali in a friendly in Marrakech. Both Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi were named in the Super Eagles’ starting line-up but goals from El Bilal Touré and Kamory Doumbia saw them defeated.
