‘The Boss’ Remembered On Former Chairman’s Birthday
Affectionally known as ‘The Boss’, Khun Vichai tragically passed away in a helicopter crash outside King Power Stadium in 2018, alongside staff members Kaveporn Punpare, Nusara Suknamai, and pilots Eric Swaffer and Izabela Lechowicz.
His eight years as the Club’s figurehead were transformational for Leicester City, guiding the Foxes from the Championship to Premier League champions in unthinkable circumstances, while also writing a magical European chapter into our history.
On Thursday, now over five years since his passing, a small gathering of Club personnel came together inside the Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Memorial Garden on Filbert Way to remember Leicester City’s former patriarch as one Foxes family.
They were there to remember the legacy of Khun Vichai, who away from football also brought the communities of Leicester together through extensive philanthropic endeavours intended to better the lives of local people in need.
He made over £2M in personal donations to local causes, including children’s facilities at the city’s Royal Infirmary. Countless other instances of private assistance or financial donations only came to light after Khun Vichai’s passing, offering an insight into his affection for the communities of Leicestershire.
Maintaining Khun Vichai’s legacy remains a precious commitment for everyone at Leicester City and will inspire our future for generations to come.
