Mavididi: We Had To Be Patient
- Leicester City were 2-1 winners over Birmingham City at King Power Stadium on Saturday
- Stephy Mavididi's 87th-minute header was the difference on Filbert Way
- It was enough to take City back to the top of the Sky Bet Championship
- The winger says the Foxes now need to build on this success
With Ipswich Town and Leeds United losing at Norwich City and Coventry City respectively, a win took Leicester back to the top of the Sky Bet Championship, but they had to work for it at King Power Stadium.
After Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's 28th-minute opener, Blues hit back through Jay Stansfield before half-time, but the Foxes kept plugging away until three minutes from time. Mavididi's header was ultimately enough for a big three points.
"I feel like the boys, we can be proud of ourselves," the winger said afterwards. "It's not easy going ahead, then being level. Then, playing against a combative team, we had we have to be patient, find our spaces, and that's what we've done.
Wild Celebrations After Late Birmingham Win
Stephy Mavididi's late header secures a dramatic 2-1 victory over Birmingham City to put Leicester City back to the top of the Sky Bet Championship.
"We came away with the three points. We've got a lot of quality in the team, so we stay patient, we keep our belief and we keep fighting until the end.
"It's been a productive week and we've just got to take it game by game now because all these games are important to get as much points as we can and just build on this game and just take it game by game."
It was a particularly euphoric moment when Mavididi's header hit the back of the net, sparking wild celebrations on Filbert Way, and the former Montpellier man says City now need to build on taking six points from two games.
"It's moments like this I've been praying for so I've always got to give thanks to my Lord and I've just got to keep working and keep building on these performances," he added. "Hopefully we can get enough to get us over the line.
Build On This Now, Says Mavididi
Match-winner Stephy Mavididi gives his perspective of Saturday's 2-1 victory over Stephy Mavididi.
"[Scoring late] makes it that extra bit juicier, but the most important thing is the three points and the team performance, and we managed to achieve both. We've just got to keep building and building and see how many points we can get."
It's Millwall away next up on Tuesday before a trip to Plymouth Argyle at the weekend and Mavididi is aware of the significance of each game. With both opponents battling relegation, like Birmingham, he knows it'll be tough.
"We've got to keep our feet on the ground, not get carried away," he explained. "Stay humble, work hard. Let's see how many points we can get.
"Many times we take it game by game and we don't look too far ahead, and we certainly don't look behind us. So, you know, we know what we need to do, and we're just going to keep working away at it."
