‘Everyone Is Fighting For Something’ – Ricardo On Plymouth Bout

Ricardo Pereira insists that all attention remains on Leicester City’s own performances and results as they close in on the Sky Bet Championship season finale.

The Foxes’ promotion ambitions took a knock in midweek as Millwall recorded a 1-0 victory over Enzo Maresca’s men at The Den; Ryan Longman scoring the only goal of the game to end a two-game winning streak over the Easter weekend which had lifted Leicester to the top of the table once more.

Moving on from Tuesday’s disappointment in the capital, the full-back believes the approaching match-up with Plymouth Argyle is crucial to Leicester’s campaign, as the Foxes look to get back on track in Devon.

He also referenced the quick turnaround time between away fixtures as an influence in their preparation, as the tightly packed fixture schedule continues.

“It’s super important,” the Portuguese international said on the reaction required from the team when heading to Home Park. “We cannot be sad and not work hard enough.

“We have to go through the detail because it’s three days with two trips, so we need to be careful, eat well, rest well and recover for the next game.”

Plymouth sit within touching distance of the relegation zone as things stand, just two points above the drop, and will have noted what a win could mean to their survival bid, having seen fellow strugglers Millwall conjure up such a result against City earlier this week.

We need to focus on ourselves, because if we don’t do our job, it doesn’t matter what the others do.

“We have to be careful because every game they are fighting for something too,” Ricardo commented ahead of Friday’s 8pm BST kick-off. “So it will be a tricky game. We need to bounce back for sure and we have to focus on us and do our job, that’s it.”

The end is in sight with just five games remaining in the battle for a return to the Premier League. Asked if there are any advantages to playing before their rivals, Ricardo emphasised the single-minded approach within the squad.

The defender added: “I think it is the same. We have to focus on ourselves, because from our own point of view, it can be okay if you play before, but for the others, it can be okay to play after, depending on other results.

“That’s why I said we need to focus on ourselves, because if we don’t do our job, it doesn’t matter what the others do or don’t do, so the focus is on us to do our best to get back to winning ways on Friday.”
