The Foxes travel to Devon for an 8pm BST kick-off at Home Park looking to reaffirm their position at the Sky Bet Championship summit, three days on from defeat to Millwall.

Although City have now welcomed back Kasey McAteer from injury, and have no new fitness concerns within the squad, centre-back Souttar remains out of contention for the latest trip south. Academy graduate McAteer has not featured in the league since February, but could return to the squad at a vital point of the season.

“They are all back apart from Harry Souttar,” Maresca told reporters on Thursday. “He (McAteer) had his first session with us yesterday; first full session. So, he can be involved in the squad.”

He is a fantastic professional, a fantastic player, but sometimes he stays out. There is no problem with him.

Enzo Maresca on Tom Cannon

Forward Tom Cannon, meanwhile, missed out on selection in the last six fixtures. Now fully fit, Maresca explained that he is battling against the other three strikers for a place in the XI.

“Tom is fine,” the 44-year-old revealed. “With Tom I feel a little bit like I did with Pat (Patson Daka) at the beginning of the season. It’s a shame and I feel sad. He trains fantastic every day and I’m sure for many other clubs he’s a striker who can score many more goals.

“Because we have many strikers, even Kel (Kelechi Iheanacho) was out of the squad sometimes, so I need to make a decision. He is a fantastic professional, a fantastic player, but sometimes he stays out. There is no problem with him.”

Elsewhere, young midfielder Sammy Braybrooke played a first 90 minutes for the Under-21s since returning from his ACL injury on Monday, while there was also another run-out against Manchester City for Will Alves, who suffered the same injury.

He added: “For sure for him (Braybrooke), for Will. But after a long injury, they need time to come back fit 100 per cent.”
