‘Disappointing For Sure’ – Maresca’s Plymouth Assessment

Enzo Maresca admitted it has been a tough week for his Leicester City side following back-to-back defeats to Millwall and Plymouth Argyle.

The Foxes were aiming to bounce back from the 1-0 reverse at The Den in midweek but fell to the same scoreline on Friday night, courtesy of Mustapha Bundu’s first-half strike for the hosts at Home Park.

Reflecting on another frustrating 90 minutes, City’s Manager felt a lack of a clinical edge prevented the Foxes from taking anything back from their trip to Devon, having created several opportunities.

The Italian commented at full-time: “It is very disappointing for sure because we lost the game. The problem is that we didn’t take our chances, we didn’t score.

“In the first half, we just conceded one transition and we conceded a goal. [In the] second half I don’t remember any chances for them and overall we had four or five chances.

“The performance for me was good. We create many chances. The problem is not the performance. But in this moment, hopefully we can reach our target.”

Keen to move on quickly, there is a week’s gap before the Baggies arrive at King Power Stadium next Saturday, a chance to put things right in front of the home support. Each of the remaining four Sky Bet Championship games carry a huge importance for Leicester’s promotion push.

The only thing is that now it is important to be focused on our final games and then we see.

“In this moment it is what it is,” the 44-year-old added. “The good thing is that it is still in our hands. We have four games to go: three of them at home with our fans in behind. But it has been a tough week.

“We can completely understand them (the fans) because we lost the game. The only thing is that now it is important to be focused on our final games and then we see.

“This is the reason why now [having] the entire week is good because we can also work mentally and try to go again in the next two games.”
