Yohan Benalouane insists Leicester City can learn from their UEFA Champions League Quarter-Final disappointment at the hands of Atlético Madrid on Tuesday night.

With a raucous Filbert Way crowd urging them on, the Foxes went desperately close to bridging the gap on several occasions but Jamie Vardy’s 61st minute strike wasn’t enough to overturn the deficit following a brilliant headed opener from Saúl Ñíguez’ in the first half.

Benaloune’s stock continues to rise at the Club having broken into the starting line-up at the beginning of 2017 and the Tunisian centre-back says the Foxes will regroup and learn from an occasionally chastening experience against one of European football’s heavyweights.

Addressing LCFC TV at full-time at Leicester City Stadium, following the 2-1 aggregate defeat, he said: “We are happy for the competition. Tonight we are out but it was a good emotion. We tried to make everything. After the half-time changes, we put more players up front to try something.

“We tried at the end but it is difficult. You have to say congratulations to Atlético and I hope they make something good. We changed because we needed to score. So we put another striker on [Leonardo Ulloa] and [Ben] Chilwell gave us some speed.

“It was difficult but it was a good performance. All the best to Atlético. We scored and we could have scored again. Maybe tonight we didn’t have enough luck. Sometimes in football you win, sometimes you learn. Today we learn.”
