Schmeichel Hails Sensational City

The magnitude of Leicester City’s superb UEFA Champions League victory over Sevilla was not lost on at the final whistle on Tuesday evening. 

helped the Foxes defy the odds to qualify for the quarter-finals of the most prestigious club competition in football. 

Schmeichel made a string of key stops including a penalty save from Steven N’Zonzi with 10 minutes to play, having already in the first leg last month. 

“It’s an amazing evening for the Club,” Schmeichel told . “I’m proud of all the boys and the fans were absolutely magnificent – it was a great atmosphere. 

“I say every time that it’s my job to make saves. I don’t think it’s a penalty but it was given and we have to get on with it and try and save it.” 

It proved to be City’s third win on the bounce and even when Sevilla were reduced to 10 men following Samir Nasri’s dismissal, Schmeichel and his men had to remain defiant at the back to grind out their first clean sheet since early January. 

The ‘keeper added: “It’s testament to the boys because we played really, really well in the first half and it was always going to be tough to keep that intensity in the second half against a team that are very good at passing. 

“Even when they went down to 10 men they kept on pressing, but we probably should have shut the game out by then. It was a good performance all round.”
