King Encouraged By Pre-Season Fitness

Pre-season training got underway for Leicester City on Monday morning and one man who couldn't wait to get back to business ahead of the new Barclays Premier League season was Andy King.
The Academy Graduate is set to become the first Foxes player to represent the Club in all of the top three tiers of English football in 2014/15, and he has been putting in the hard work to make sure he’s ready for the big kick-off.

Winner of both League 1 and Championship titles with the Foxes, Welsh international King is determined to hit the ground running by getting a good pre-season under his belt after a enjoying a well-earned few weeks off.

“It was good to get away with all the boys, especially at the end of last season with all the celebrations,” King told LCFC.com.

“Those occasions don’t come around too often, so to be able to celebrate together like we did was brilliant, and massively generous from the owners to support us in that way. It was a great couple of weeks for everyone.

“It’s what everybody has been working for for so long, and now it’s here, nobody really wants to let the chance slip by.”

Despite the pre-season training officially starting on Monday, King revealed that the work has been going on for the players throughout the summer, with most eager to grab a head start and boost their chances of getting into the starting line-up against Everton on 16 August.

He added: “The Sports Science staff here are good and they won’t push you too hard too soon, but you’ve got to come back fit.

“Pre-seasons aren’t like they used to be. You can’t just chill out for the whole break, you have to do your own stuff and to be fair to the boys, they’ve completed the tests and everyone looks in good shape.

“You have to police your fitness yourself, and you know your body better than anybody. Some of us had games and training during the off-season, so that helped too. Everyone came back fit and we can’t wait to get started now.

“I think with the characters we have here, we’ll be professional whichever league we’re playing in or whoever we’re playing against because that’s what modern day football is.

“It’s not going to be too much change in terms of what we do [in pre-season]. I think it’ll be similar to what we did last year, and that worked, so we’ll probably do the same again. It’s all about getting fit and ready for the new season.”
