Manager Takes Centre Stage
Local, national and international press all had their cameras trained on the City boss for over 45 minutes as he patiently fielded questions about topics ranging from the weekend’s game, the changing demands of the Premier League, injuries, transfers and his respect for his opposite number at Everton.
The goal for the Foxes this season remains to retain their Premier League status for another year, and when assessing his team’s chances, the manager had plenty of positives to talk about, not least the seemingly unbreakable team spirit that played such a vital role last season.
"We have a very strong team and group ethic,” said Pearson. “It won't win you titles though. We have some quality within our squad as well. Those things together will serve us very well.
"Success is very difficult to evaluate this season. Last year we were billed as a side who should be in the automatic promotion shake up.
"We have to concentrate on what we're about but also on sides we are playing against, and there were some real success stories last year.
"It's dangerous to set your targets too low. It's very difficult to have a definitive answer. You could argue purely on a business level survival is an achievement.
"But I can't preach that. That would be underselling what we want to achieve. We have some exciting young players, providing they are able to adapt, will do well in the Premier League.
"The Premier League and Championship are very different but I know we have players who are capable of doing very well.”
