Pearson's Praise For Disciplined Foxes

City manager Nigel Pearson felt his side showed immense discipline in their 1-1 draw with Arsenal at King Power Stadium on Sunday.
A tap-in from Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez put Arsene Wenger’s men into an early lead but Leonardo Ulloa netted his second goal in three appearances in the Barclays Premier League to earn the Foxes a point.

The result lifted Pearson’s men up to 15th, and crucially out of the relegation zone, before the international break begins next week.

Speaking exclusively to Foxes Player, the Leicester boss said: “I thought we played well again – three games in the Premier League where we’ve acquitted ourselves in a positive manner.

“I know we’ve not dominated games possession wise in the way that we did last season but in all three games so far we’ve created chances to score and that is very encouraging.

“For all Arsenal’s possession and attempts I don’t think we were as stretched as possibly people would expect us to be.

“We’ve shown a level of discipline which is going to be important moving forward because every game that you play at this level is very, very tough and we’ve shown that we’ve got resilience but we’ve got capabilities as well in terms of our quality.

“We showed an understanding of how to limit quality opponents to few real chances – I don’t know how many attempts we had but I did feel that we, for the most part, kept them at arm’s length and that’s not easy in itself because the quality of players that they have makes it difficult to be a dominant force.

“I always felt that we showed the belief that we could win it and for the second home game running, having gone a goal behind, we responded pretty quickly so that again is another positive for us.”

And Pearson praised the manner in which his side drew level, with Jeffrey Schlupp turning provider for Argentine forward Ulloa.

He continued: “Jeff showed what he’s capable of – that burst of pace and a very good cross and of course it’s not a straight forward finish – it was a very well placed header where you factor in the defender’s position and he’s coped with it very well.

“It was great for us to get something out the game but we continued to press for that win – unfortunately it didn’t come.”
