Nick Powell Joins Leicester City On Loan

Leicester City Football Club is delighted to confirm that Nick Powell has joined the Club on a season-long loan from Manchester United, subject to Premier League and FA clearance.

The highly-rated 20-year-old forward completed the formalities of the move just hours before Monday night’s transfer deadline, joining Esteban Cambiasso and Danny Simpson among Nigel Pearson’s new recruits in the last week.
Powell joins the Foxes following a successful spell on loan last season with Wigan Athletic, where he made 41 appearances in a variety of attacking positions and scored and impressive 12 goals.
Powell joined United in the summer of 2012 after a sensational rise with hometown club Crewe Alexandra, for whom he had made 84 appearances and scored 16 goals by the age of 18. Following a stunning strike in the League 2 Play-Off Final at Wembley in May, he moved to Old Trafford to continue his development with the Red Devils.
His United career could not have started more perfectly, as Powell scored the final goal in a 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic on his Old Trafford debut in September 2012. He would go on to feature in the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and the Capital One Cup in his first season.
He joined Wigan on loan at the start of last season, making his debut in a 2-0 defeat against Leicester at King Power Stadium and going on to become a regular in the Latics side both domestically and on the European stage. His 41 appearances that season included six in the UEFA Europa League, where he also scored three goals.
Subject to his registration being approved by the Premier League, Powell could make his debut when the Foxes travel to Stoke City on Saturday 13 September. He will be ineligible to face his parent club when City host United at King Power Stadium on Sunday 21 September.
