Argentina Stars Come Out For Rugby World Cup 2015
Hundreds of Argentina fans are expected to make the journey to Leicester to watch their team play two matches in Rugby World Cup 2015 – and Leonardo is confident they’ll receive a warm welcome.
“Leicester is a very friendly city – and the people here are passionate about sport,” he said.
“I hope that many people will make the journey to Leicester to watch our national rugby team next year. Maybe Argentina is more famous for football than rugby, but I’m sure the team will get great support from the people of Leicester – and, of course, from Esteban and me. Vamos Argentina!”
Argentina will play in two of the three matches taking place in Leicester next year, facing Tonga on 4 October and Namibia on 11 October.
Leicester will also host the match between Canada and Romania on 6 October 2015.
Assistant City Mayor Cllr Piara Singh Clair said: “Hosting Rugby World Cup 2015 will put the spotlight on a sport that thousands of young people already enjoy – but having the opportunity to see top flight international rugby here in Leicester will encourage many more to have a go.
“In just over 12 months’ time, we’ll be welcoming players and fans from all around the world to Leicester – and that will bring many benefits, not only to the sport of rugby, but also to the city as a whole.”
Up to one million tickets for all 48 matches of Rugby World Cup 2015 – including the three matches to be held in Leicester – will go on sale today (Friday 12 September).
Prices start at £7 for children and £15 for adults. Rugby fans have until 29 September to apply for their tickets at. Matches where demand exceeds supply will be balloted.
