Leicester City Increasing Female Participation In Football

The initiative sees free football sessions delivered in many schools and colleges across the region with the aim of increasing the participation of girls aged 14-25 in football and to retain them in the sport.
James Lowbridge, the Trust’s Community Cohesion Manager has expressed his delight with how the sessions have started.
He said: “It is very pleasing to see the interest and enthusiasm of the girls during the sessions and they have a real desire to play football.
“We will be using these opportunities to try and retain the girls during the 10-week sessions at schools and colleges and help create potential pathways for the girls to find clubs to join.”
As part of today’s FA Respect fixture, the Trust kick-started the coaching sessions at Soar Valley College with a respect theme and wore FA Respect t-shirts.
The girls in attendance were very excited about the programme and want to use the sessions to aid their development in football.
Year 10 student Simran said: “The LCFC sessions make us drive towards reaching excellence. It is a great experience, full of challenges and it can provide us with opportunities to find a club to play for.”
Ambar and Aisha echoed their team-mate’s thoughts, adding: “The sessions give us a feel of how it would be training in a club. It is fun and tiring but it develops our skills and tactics in the game.”
To celebrate the initial success of the project, two girls have been selected to be flag bearers at today’s match and will have the opportunity to watch Leicester City’s first team in action.
