U18s Report: Liverpool 3 Leicester City 2

Leicester City’s Under-18s suffered a narrow Barclays U18 Premier League defeat to Liverpool at their Kirkby Academy on Saturday.

The Reds carried a two-goal advantage into the break thanks to well taken strikes from Ovie Ejaria and Callum Nicholas.
Leicester rallied and pulled one back through Keenan King – the striker’s third goal in his last four U18 Premier League appearances – before defender Josh Knight hauled City level at 2-2.
But it was Liverpool who went on to secure the three points through substitute Wade Maxwell, who fired in past goalkeeper Max Bramley late on.
Reflecting on what proved to be a tight game, Under-18s manager Trevor Peake told LCFC.com: “We were second best to Liverpool in the first half so we talked to the lads about that at half-time.
“We soon gained the rewards from that in the second half. We got two goals in the first 20 minutes but then got beaten on the break for the final goal, conceding what turned out to be their winner.
“Both of our goals were from corners, with Matty Miles putting in two good deliveries. Keenan King and Josh Knight both scored with their heads.
“We can certainly learn from the defeat. We haven’t played against many teams who play three at the back. They had a different system with a packed midfield, so it’s a different experience for the lads to play against and I’m sure it’ll be another learning curve for them.”
The young Foxes next face a home tie on Saturday 28 March against Brighton and Hove Albion – a side that Peake’s outfit have already beaten twice this season - before their FA Youth Cup Semi-Final Second Leg clash with Manchester City at King Power Stadium on Wednesday 8 April (7.45pm kick-off).
Hoping to make it three 2014/15 U18 Premier League wins out of three against the Seagulls, Peake added: “We know Brighton well. We’ve managed to beat them both times we’ve faced them this season.
“It’ll be the last game before our Youth Cup fixture, so hopefully we can go into that game on the back of a win against Brighton.”
