Pearson: Another Step In The Right Direction
Leo Ulloa opened the scoring with a header inside the first minute, and was again involved as Wes Morgan added a second on 17 minutes to give the Foxes a commanding lead going into the second half.
After the break Ulloa added a penalty after Marcin Wasilewski was brought down, before red cards for Mike Williamson and Daryl Janmaat essentially ended the visiting side’s hopes of salvaging a point.
Reflecting on the game, Pearson told Foxes Player: “It was a great win, a great performance and another step in the right direction. It’s pleasing to score goals, but we could have scored more. We kept a clean sheet, which is important because goal difference could still prove a critical factor.
“With three games to go, I’ll reiterate what I’ve said of late, which is that we’ve given ourselves a more realistic possibility of retaining our Premier League status, which is important for us.
“I’m just really pleased for the players with how they’ve been able to produce such a great performance again. It was full of energy, full of quality and hats off to them.
“I’m really pleased for our fans too because the atmosphere generated within the stadium is difficult to deal with, especially at key moments during games. Fortunately we’ve been able to make the most of our chances when they’ve come along.
"We could have scored more goals, but importantly we’ve seen off a potentially difficult game, because when you go into fixtures like this where there is a tendency to assume that because Newcastle are on such a bad run, it’ll be an easy fixture. The only way you can make it easy is by playing at your maximum. We were able to do that again and I’m pleased.”
