There was a first Barclays U21 Premier League victory of the season for Leicester City’s Development Squad on Saturday as they beat Manchester City at the Citizens’ Academy Stadium.

A dominant first-half display saw Jacob Blyth open the scoring on the quarter-hour mark for the Foxes before Danny Rowe doubled his side’s lead nine minutes later.

It was winger Joe Dodoo, having netted against West Ham United for the Club’s first team last month, who extended City’s lead shortly after the break with a superb strike from distance.

The hosts pulled one back two minutes later through David Faupala, but an outstanding display from Leicester earned Steve Beaglehole’s side a deserved first win of the 2015/16 campaign.

Both sides traded blows early on as Bersant Celina went close for the Citizens, before Matty Miles fired a low drive that flew just past the post at the other end.

Then Blyth, who spent a month on loan at Cambridge United earlier this season, rose well and headed in to give the Foxes a deserved lead with 15 minutes gone.

City were ruthless and extended their advantage on 24 minutes as Rowe hammered a shot from distance that deflected in past stopper Ian Lawlor to make it 2-0.

Jonny Maddison was on hand just moments later to deny Manu Garcia and keep his clean sheet intact heading into the break.

The Foxes started the second period with real intent and made it 3-0 on 53 minutes as Dodoo converted from the edge of the box.

Man City replied immediately through Faupala as the young attacker fired in from 20 yards, before several chances fell the Citizens way.

Maddison pulled off a good stop to deny Brandon Barker, before efforts from Thierry Ambrose and Alex Garcia flew off target late on.

It was a victory that had certainly been coming given the Foxes’ spirited performances in recent weeks. City next face Norwich City in their first Premier League International Cup fixture of the season following a two-week international break on Tuesday 20 October (7pm kick-off).
