Midfielder Michael Cain says Leicester City’s Development Squad will draw plenty of positives from Monday evening’s Premier League International Cup clash with PSV Eindhoven.

The Foxes came up against an experienced PSV side and the Dutch outfit’s senior involvement eventually proved pivotal at King Power Stadium.

City started well after going close through Jacob Blyth and Joe Dodoo, but first teamer Gaston Pereiro-Lopez struck either side of the break to secure a 2-0 win for the visitors.

Speaking to Foxes Player HD after the game, Cain said: “We went into the game with high hopes and started very well. In the first 20 minutes I thought we were the better side overall.

“We tinkered around with the formation as they got in behind us a couple of times and I don’t think we adapted to it as well as we could have.

“They got on top after they scored their goal and kept the ball. It was hard for us to get back at them. They’re a good team and for them to have the type of experience they did made it even tougher.

“I thought the lads dug deep and kept going until the end of the game but we weren’t quite good enough on the night.”

The defeat to PSV combined with City’s 2-1 Group C victory over Norwich City means a win against Villarreal at King Power Stadium on Wednesday 2 December would see the Foxes advance to the quarter-finals of the competition.

Cain added: “There’s a lot of positives to take from the game. I think as a team we just need to believe in ourselves and possibly be more positive in the final third.

“If we take one or two of our chances then it could be a completely different game. We beat Norwich in the last round and we played well again tonight [against PSV], we were just unlucky. Come the next game against Villarreal, we’ll be looking to get three points.”
