Leicester City’s place in the hearts of the Thai people was spectacularly displayed on Thursday afternoon as MILLIONS turned out for an open-top bus parade in Bangkok.

The streets of the capital came to a grinding halt as a bus carrying the visiting players and staff of the Premier League champions along with the Club’s owners crawled through downtown Bangkok.

Crowding to catch a glimpse of their heroes and the glistening Premier League trophy, football-mad Thai fans took to the streets and the city’s balconies, bridges, flyovers and squares to create a quite extraordinary spectacle on a proud afternoon for the Club’s owners, the Srivaddhanaprabha family.

Supporters of all ages roared their approval as the players broke the Bangkok skyline with one of sport’s most iconic trophies, while distributing t-shirts and wristbands from the top of the bus.

Some fans walked alongside the bus, having thrown shirts up for the players to sign and return. It is the second time this week that the City squad have paraded their newly won trophy, having completed a similar tour through the streets of Leicester on Monday.

“It’s amazing,” said City winger Jeffrey Schlupp. “We were expecting a decent turnout, but this is beyond anything any of us could have imagined. It’s as if the whole of Bangkok has come out to see us.

“We know people in Thailand love their football and Leicester having Thai owners makes us a natural team for them to follow, but we’re now really starting to see how much love there is for the Club out here.

“The parade in Leicester on Monday was something else and this has just been a continuation of it. These are great times.”

Monday’s parade in Leicester attracted nearly a quarter of a million people to the streets of the city and to Victoria Park, as Leicester came together to hail the city’s first ever top-flight title.

With a population of over 10 million, Bangkok is one of the most populated cities in east Asia and had the numbers to make this an event on an even bigger scale.

The people of the city did not disappoint. Thank you, Bangkok. And thank you, Thailand! You’ve been truly amazing!
