Following the launch of Leicester City’s Premier League home and away kits for the 2016/17 season, both of which are available to purchase from the City Fanstore at King Power Stadium, those fans who are looking to learn more about the history of Leicester City’s shirts should look no further than the ‘Classic Shirts’ book. 

The book, compiled by Club historian John Hutchinson, Club photographer Neil Plumb and Leicester City fan Rob O’Donnell provides the first ever visual record of Leicester City shirts – home and away – from the 1971 season through to the Premier League title winning 2015/16 season. 

Within the book, you’ll will learn about when the Club first played in an all-blue kit, why during the 1972/73 season the Club adopted an all-white home kit and about the kits worn during the 1949, 1961, 1963 and 1969 FA Cup Finals. 

Classic Shirts also chronicles the history of Leicester City’s red away shirts which were common throughout the 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s including the red shirts worn by players including Keith Weller, Frank Worthington and Alan Birchenall, between 1973 and 1976. 

During the 1980s, the Club played away from Filbert Street in red shirts sponsored by IND COOPE and later John Bull, while in the 1990s the Bukta manufactured and Walkers Crisps sponsored red shirt also featured.
