Ranieri: A Fantastic Evening
- Islam Slimani scored City’s first two goals either side of half time on his Premier League debut
- The manager says it was important for them to build on their midweek win with another strong performance
- Ranieri talks about his half-time message after Slimani scored in stoppage time of the first 45 minutes
After watching his Leicester City side secure a comfortable 3-0 win over Burnley at King Power Stadium praised the control with which the Foxes played.
The Premier League champions were rarely troubled by Sean Dyche’s newly-promoted side as they powered to a three points that moved them back into the top half of the table.
New signing Islam Slimani opened the scoring with a header from a Christian Fuchs cross in first half stoppage time before he added a second shortly after the break with another header – this time assisted by Jamie Vardy.
A deflection off former loanee Ben Mee after a Riyad Mahrez cross then gave City the 3-0 win – their second in succession following a midweek Champions League victory over Club Brugge.
“It was important to win back in the Premier League,” Ranieri told LCFC TV HD. “We won our match against Brugge, our first in the Champions League and now in the Premier League it’s important we move up the table.
“We made a fantastic performance against a very well organised team. It was very difficult at the beginning to find the solution to score but we pushed hard and at the end of the first half we scored the first goal.
“It was good to score at the beginning of the second half and again Slimani scored twice - it was a fantastic evening.
“I said to them [at half time] keep going because we are playing well. We did. It was important to score again and also to keep a clean sheet. We kept control of the match, moved the ball well from left to right and I’m very pleased with the performance.”
