Pearson Seeks Continuation Of Home Form

Away success may be a nut City have yet to crack in the early stages of the new season, but a home harvest in the coming days will have them looking to the autumn with renewed confidence.

Points on the road have proved elusive so far, but their return to the solace of King Power Stadium this week will be comforting. Having won both league games played on their own patch, they now face back-to-back home league games on Filbert Way – against Burnley and Hull City – for the first time this term.

A continuation of that 100 per cent record could be the perfect platform from which the Foxes can kick on and take their campaign up a gear.

“With two home games in a week, we’ll be looking to maintain our good home form, but it’s never easy to do that,” admitted boss Nigel Pearson ahead of Wednesday’s visit of the Clarets.

“When you lose away from home it just puts that added pressure on your home form, but we need to get back to playing near our best again.

“The players are in good spirits, we’ve missed a couple of opportunities, but we’re still very positive in terms of our mind-set.”

Lapses in defensive concentration ultimately proved costly for the Foxes in Sunday’s defeat at Wolves, where two first-half goals – both from set-pieces – proved too much for Pearson’s men to recover from.

They are errors Pearson says have been infrequent to date, but his players will be working to eradicate them all the same.

“I think Sunday’s mistakes were mistakes that I would expect us to avoid, but they certainly haven’t been happening on a regular basis,” he said.

“We’ve had a couple of games where we haven’t helped ourselves, and I’m thinking of the Charlton and Wolves games, but that has generally not been the case in the league.

“We’ll work at it and look forward to the next game.”

The Foxes will also be required to cope with the threat posed by Wednesday’s opponents, who should arrive at King Power Stadium brimming with confidence.

Burnley share the same record of two wins and three defeats as City, but were rampant at the weekend as they handed Peterborough a 5-2 defeat at Turf Moor.

“I’ve seen that game already, it was a very open game and they played with a high tempo,” Pearson said.

“We’re going to have to make sure our performance is right.”
