Schlupp Enjoying Run In First Team
Having started games in the position for the last few weeks following and injury to Paul Konchesky, Schlupp seems to be fitting in well with the Foxes back four.
He said: “I’ve played there for the last two or three games now and I’ve enjoyed it.
“I’ve played half-decent in the position and we’ve had good results as well.
“Six-nil against Ipswich and a clean sheet was great last week, so I’m enjoying it.”
Talking about making the switch from forward to full-back, Schlupp added: “It’s a new challenge for me, but I’ve had a few words with people like Konch and the other defenders, who are guiding me through it and helping me out day-by-day and I’m just going from there really.
“All my life I’ve played up front and not really thought about defending, but in training and games you watch everyone else and you think about the little things that Konch does, or that the other defenders do, then I pick it up from there.”
Despite operating as a defender, Schlupp has been linking up well with in-form winger Lloyd Dyer to keep the Foxes on the front foot.
And the young Ghanaian says he has enjoyed building a partnership with the experienced wide-man.
“He just tells me to be free, really,” Schlupp said of Dyer.
“He knows I’m attack-minded, so he tells me to go forward if I want to go forward and he’ll definitely fill in for me.
“It’s good to have an understanding like that with the people playing in front of you.”
Konchesky potential return to action this weekend leaves manager Nigel Pearson with a selection dilemma, as the Foxes boss agonises over whether to alter a winning team.
But Schlupp has just been grateful for the opportunity to be starting in a team pushing for promotion.
He added: “To be involved in a team like this during this season means a lot to me, whether it’s at left-back or wherever.
“I’m grateful for that, to the manager and all the lads making me welcome in the team.”
