Heskey Helps Out In Hong Kong Coaching Session

The LCFC Community Trust continued to deliver coaching sessions to Hong Kong youngsters with the assistance of former Fox Emile Heskey on Thursday morning.

Victoria Park, located in the Causeway Bay area, was the setting as children of all ages aimed to improve their footballing skills with a series of drills.

With the experience of playing on the highest stage at both international and club level, Heskey was on hand to help out the LCFC Community Trust coaches in delivering another enjoyable course in Hong Kong.

Heskey said: “It was good. It was an interesting one that we came to today and the kids loved it – that’s what it’s all about, getting them involved and keeping them active.

“It’s about letting them enjoy sports and that was one of the main things for me when I was growing up.

Heskey Coaches Youngsters In Hong Kong

Former Foxes striker Emile Heskey caught up with LCFC TV after running a few drills with some of the locals in Hong Kong.

“I played several different sports as a child, so it’s all about getting active and making sure you get some enjoyment out of it.

“The kids take everything in and it was great for them to be coached by the Community Trust too.”

The LCFC Community Trust have been in Hong Kong throughout the week and even gave one budding footballer the opportunity to be a mascot for the Foxes during Saturday’s Premier League Asia Trophy Final clash with Liverpool. 

LCFC Community Trust coach Marie Widerman said: “The children have done really well. There are a lot of varied abilities, so we’ve been able to do a lot of skills work and shooting with them.

“The coaches that are out here are quite experienced, but we’ve been able to implement some fresh ideas and it’s worked really well.

“It’s been great having Emile here. He’s a great personality and he’s fun and he got the kids to do some shooting. The kids have been able to meet him and he got involved in the sessions.”

Working closely with the Hong Kong FA, the LCFC Community Trust have successfully implemented a number of courses that will no doubt live long in the memory of all of the youngsters that were involved.

Sam Bensley, Grassroots Football Manager at the Hong Kong FA, added: “It’s been fantastic today. We’ve had three sessions from the youngest kids up to the oldest. It’s been a great experience for them and they’ve had smiles on their faces, which is one of the main things we want to see.

“We’ve also had the opportunity to learn some from some of the Leicester coaches, which is brilliant, and also our local coaches have been able to improve themselves too. The Community Trust coaches have been really enthusiastic and that’s been really motivational for the kids.

“Every day, Leicester have been on the pitch with the kids, which is really beneficial for them. It gives them the experience of a different style of coaching to the one that they would normally have here in Hong Kong. Hopefully that’ll inspire them to continue playing.”
