Maguire: Fans Have Been Brilliant

New Leicester City centre back Harry Maguire heralded the Blue Army after scoring his first goal for the Club in a 2-1 defeat in pre-season at Burton Albion on Tuesday evening.

- Harry Maguire was pleased to get off the mark for Leicester City on Tuesday night
- The 24-year-old centre back scored his first goal for the Club in a 2-1 defeat at Burton Albion
- City improved in the second period at Pirelli Stadium after going two goals behind early on
- Maguire has been impressed by the Club's supporters since joining this summer

The 24-year-old was a second half substitute at Pirelli Stadium and, as well as a typically assured display at the back, he was a threat for the Foxes in more advanced positions also.

While his 66th minute effort wasn’t enough to overturn the scores, Maguire was still pleased with his contribution in Staffordshire: “To get on the scoresheet is always nice, it’s always a bonus, but it means nothing unless you win the game.

“It’s disappointing to lose the game but I think you’ve seen out there, especially in the second half, we’ve created five or six really good opportunities.

Maguire: We Need To Be More Clinical

Foxes defender Harry Maguire spoke to LCFC TV after City's pre-season friendly against Burton Albion.

“On another day, we’d win the game. We’ll take the positives and, on Friday, we’ve got another game [vs. Bundesliga Mönchengladbach]. It’s all pre-season and we’re all gearing up to the big game a week on Friday [at Arsenal].

“It was a high tempo game. In the first half, the gaffer reiterated that we needed to be a bit quicker and, in the second half, we were a bit more like ourselves.

“We played on the front foot, we got after them and we pressed them high. It was end-to-end and a good game to watch for the supporters but, if we were a bit more clinical, we’d have gone on to win the game.

Their support over pre-season has been remarkable and hopefully they bring it into the season and we can give them something to cheer about.

“Their ‘keeper has pulled off some unbelievable saves. It’s a disappointing result but, like I said, it’s all about a week on Friday.”

Maguire has been thrilled by the welcome afforded to him by the Club’s supporters since joining from Hull City earlier this summer and hopes to repay their faith throughout the upcoming Premier League campaign.

“Since I joined, they’ve been brilliant,” he added.

“They follow us in numbers, they were there in big numbers and singing all the way through. It’s something I’m looking forward to, home and away. I’m looking forward to Friday; playing in front of the home fans.

“Their support over pre-season has been remarkable and hopefully they bring it into the season and we can give them something to cheer about.”

On City’s pre-season, which has included trips to Austria and Hong Kong, Maguire continued: “It’s always tough, every pre-season is tough. This one has been really enjoyable. It’s a great bunch of lads with a great team spirit and the gaffer’s been great with me as well.

“It’s all about fitness and feeling good. I think we’re getting to a stage now where we are feeling good, in the second half here we came on strong. A lot of the boys played 90 minutes so lots of positives to take.”
