The Three Lions secured successive victories over Malta and Slovakia during the first international break of the new season to go five points clear at the top of European Group F with two games to go.

Vardy, 30, came off the bench to earn his 17th cap for his country during a 4-0 success in Malta on Friday evening before later being an unused substitute for a 2-1 victory over Slovakia at Wembley.

Catching up with LCFC TV in the capital, the striker, who already has two Premier League goals to his name, said: “[We’ve got] six points, that is all that matters.

Vardy Eager For More England Call-Ups

Foxes forward Jamie Vardy talks to LCFC TV after the Three Lions secured victories over Malta and Slovakia during the International break...

“That is what we wanted to get when we met up on camp and that is what we got. We’ve put ourselves in a strong position.”

On Friday, Vardy was introduced in the 70th minute with England leading by a solitary goal but, once the full-time whistle had blown, Southgate’s men were four ahead.

The Foxes man was delighted to make an impact on the game and to continue adding to his caps tally ahead of next summer’s showpiece tournament in Russia.

I need to concentrate on playing well for Leicester and hopefully I’ll be in the squad for the World Cup too.

“It’s always good to get an appearance,” he added. “Coming off the bench, obviously you want to make an impact. Scoring three goals late on in that game helped us.”

It is now two years since Vardy’s England debut, a friendly stalemate with the Republic of Ireland in Dublin, and the City forward says he is loving every minute of international duty.

Asked for his England highlight so far, he replied: “All of it! Getting in the squad for the Euros... I need to concentrate on playing well for Leicester and hopefully I’ll be in the squad for the World Cup too.”
