National Fitness Day aims to celebrate the fun of fitness and physical activity, whilst raising awareness of the importance of leading healthier and active lifestyles.

As part of the Premier League Primary Stars initiative, the Community Trust, supported by club mascot Filbert Fox, joined pupils for a day of activities, including football, basketball, hula hooping and table tennis.

Ann-Marie Kedzior, headteacher, commented: “This was our best National Fitness Day by far. The children learnt about the importance of staying healthy and had fun whilst doing so.

"I would like to personally thank the Leicester City Community Trust for joining us on such an important event. Their presence certainly raised the profile of the day.”

Premier League Primary Stars uses the appeal of the Premier League and Leicester City Football Club to inspire children to learn, be active and develop important life skills.

Available to primary schools across Leicester, the programme inspires girls and boys aged between five and 11-years-old in the classroom, the playground and on the sports field.

Teaching materials cover subjects from English to teamwork and PE, with free to download activity ideas, worksheets, lesson plans, fun assemblies and exclusive videos at plprimarystars.com.

Stephen Beardsmore, Deputy Headteacher, added: “It was truly a pleasure to take part in the most active day of the year alongside the Leicester City Community Trust and Filbert Fox.

"The children had an amazing time and, most importantly, learnt about the benefits of regular exercise including a healthy heart and increased fitness.

"From football to ping pong and warm-ups to the ‘Daily Mile’, the Community Trust made each activity fun and engaging – there was a real buzz in the air.”
