Schoolchildren from across the region of Leicestershire were invited to King Power Stadium to discuss resilience, the topic of poems they will write as part of a nation-wide competition.

As part of Premier League Primary Stars, a scheme which aims to inspire children to engage with English, Maths, PE and life skills, their schools will now help them submit 150-word entries.

Simpson Helps Promote PL Writing Stars

Danny Simpson took time out during the international break to encourage young children from around Leicestershire to better their writing skills.

English resources are available on the Premier League's website and the LCFC Community Trust will continue to visit primary schools across Leicestershire this season.

Simpson, whose own resilience helped him to lift the Premier League title in 2016, read William Edward Hickson's poem 'Try, Try Again' to the visiting children before also taking questions from the floor.

“It’s been amazing to see all the kids here today,” he told LCFC TV. “They’re enjoying their day and listening to me read a poem, it just brings everyone together.

Hopefully the stories I told today can inspire the children to achieve their own dreams.

“The Premier League and the LCFC Community Trust are doing a fantastic job across the country and the local region so it’s great for me to be a part of it today.

“We all achieved a dream in 2016. Every single one of us had to try our best in every game, we had to be 100 per cent because there are so many quality teams and players.

Simpson signed autographs and passed on tips on resilience.

“Everyone at the Club had to try and try again and thankfully we pulled it off. Hopefully the stories I told today can inspire the children to achieve their own dreams.”

Ryan Bromyard, Schools Sport Officer at the Community Trust, was also thrilled to see so many local children take such a keen interest in the event.

“It is a national competition by the Premier League,” he explained. “We’re hosting it here at King Power Stadium where kids are invited to write a poem about resilience.

“Danny’s been absolutely superb today. We did a question and answer session today about what resilence means to him and the children will take what he said home with them.

“It’s a great example of what the LCFC Community Trust does with our 12 partnered schools and it is a fantastic project for us to be involved with.”
