We Expect More Of Ourselves, Says Morgan

The Foxes went into the break 2-0 down following strikes from Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha, before Vicente Iborra had a goal disallowed and Wilfred Ndidi was sent off after two bookings in the second period.

In an attempt to halve the deficit, City threw men forward late on, but they were hit on the counter attack in injury time as Bakary Sako curled in off the post for the visitors.

“It was very disappointing,” Morgan told LCFC TV at the full-time whistle. “We were on a good run and we wanted to continue that, but it wasn’t meant to be. We came up against a good Crystal Palace side, but we’re very disappointed with today’s result.

The Skipper's Verdict

Wes Morgan spoke to LCFC TV at full-time on Saturday afternoon to reflect on his side's loss to Crystal Palace.

“After both goals, we went into the break 2-0 down. It was always going to be an uphill struggle. It was a little stop-start from us and that’s something we need to look back on. We need to work hard this week in training to try and rectify our mistakes.

“Maybe some decisions didn’t quite go our way but overall, we should do better, especially after our recent run. We expect more of ourselves and we didn’t quite deliver today.

“Everyone is playing the same amount of games, so there’s no excuses in that sense. Maybe they had an extra day’s rest, but we work hard to make sure that we’re at our best level of fitness for each and every game.

We’ve played well and we can’t let this result get us down. We need to look at all the positive things we’ve done in recent weeks and get back to how good we can be.

“We’ve got a tough few weeks ahead, but everyone is in the same boat.”

A difficult challenge follows for City, as they host Manchester City in the Carabao Cup Quarter-Finals, but Morgan believes the only way to put their defeat to Palace behind them is to put in a positive display against Pep Guardiola’s men.

“The only way to respond is to win our next game,” he added. “We want to do a lot better than we did today and hopefully we can.

“We’ve played well and we can’t let this result get us down. We need to look at all the positive things we’ve done in recent weeks and get back to how good we can be.”
