While Matty James (Achilles) and Robert Huth (ankle) continue their returns to full fitness during training at Belvoir Drive, City's squad is otherwise in good health.

“For the moment, they cannot [return],” Puel told the national media at his pre-match press conference on Monday.

For the future it will be better to have some rotation without losing the quality. I think we can look forward with good quality on the pitch.

“They need to work, of course, but it is nice to see them again in the training sessions with a positive outlook. It is a little too early for the moment but there are no more injuries.”

With five matches in two weeks on the horizon, the Frenchman is aware that he may need to utilise the full depth of his squad to manage a packed festive fixture schedule.

“It is important to believe in my players and for me to put in place a good balance," Puel added.

“We can do something tomorrow [Tuesday], of course. For the future it will be better to have some rotation without losing the quality. I think we can look forward with good quality on the pitch.

“It will be the strongest players [to play against Man City] at the moment.”
