Goals from Dominic Telford, either side of Tyrese Shade's equaliser for the Foxes, handed a group stage victory to the Sky Bet League 2 hosts, who had Callum McFadzean sent off in the first half.

"We came with a good game plan, a good side and they had a young side out, and we spoke about starting with a good tempo and doing our jobs right," Beaglehole told LCFC TV.

"They’ve trained well in the week with some of the first team players who haven’t been away on international duty, but we gave some sloppy goals away tonight.

I have no doubt that we will respond to this result and we can go to Tottenham in the right frame of mind to collect a positive result.

"I think their players saw us as a real challenge for them tonight and they went about it the right way, they worked hard and weathered the storm when we were playing well.

"We weren’t clinical, even though we dominated long periods in the first half, but we didn’t work the goalkeeper enough.

"We’ve had so many good performances over the last two years and coming back from 2-0 and winning on penalties put us in a great position to win here tonight as well."

Beaglehole hopes that his youngsters will be able to use this game as a motivational tool going forwards in their Premier League 2 campaign, starting at Tottenham Hotspur on Friday.

"I hope the players will look back on this during their careers and use it as a reminder to always do the right things, do the things they are good at in challenging circumstances," he added.

"Hopefully we can respond at Tottenham at Friday so we’ll wipe the slate clean and start again. It’s about being consistent in your performances and showing your best ability every week.

"I have no doubt that we will respond to this result and we can go to Tottenham in the right frame of mind to collect a positive result."
