City's Youngsters Miss Out On Checkatrade Trophy Progression

- Results elsewhere mean Leicester City's Development Squad exit the Checkatrade Trophy
- City required Fleetwood Town to defeat Bury by a 1-0 or 2-1 scoreline on Tuesday evening
- Bury ran out as 3-1 victors at Gigg Lane, securing their passage as runners up
- As a result, the Foxes finish in third place in Northern Group B after all three matches

The 2018/19 season is the third in which City's Development Squad have entered the competition - for clubs playing in Sky Bet League 1 and League 2, as well as U21 teams from 16 Category One clubs.

During the group stage, teams were awarded three points for a win and one point for a draw, with a penalty shoot-out being played for an additional bonus point.

As an ‘invited’ club, City played their three group stage games away from home. Leicester's final fixture, at Rochdale last week, ended in a 2-2 draw, before a 4-3 success on penalties. 

Another 2-2 draw at Fleetwood - including a 7-6 shoot-out victory - and a 2-1 defeat at Bury earlier this season means the Foxes finished their campaign in Northern Group B on four points.

However, Rochdale and Bury ended their group stage campaigns with seven and six points respectively, denying City's youngsters a place in the knockout phase for the first time.

The Development Squad remain in the Premier League Cup and the Premier League International Cup, while also continuing to compete in Premier League 2 Division 1.
