- The award was presented to members of the Club’s staff at a special ceremony in London on Thursday night

It was presented to members of the Club’s staff in acknowledgement of Khun Vichai’s leadership at Leicester City and his enormous impact on the football world and local community.

Under Khun Vichai’s leadership, the Foxes established themselves in English football’s top flight, became Premier League champions for the first time in the Club’s history and graced the UEFA Champions League.

His impact on the city of Leicester was also immense – donating millions of pounds to worthy causes in the community and uniting supporters like never before with his acts of kindness and generosity.

The announcement received a standing ovation and is just the third time in the award’s history that it has been awarded posthumously.

The Football Business Awards, now in its seventh year, recognises both the business units within football clubs responsible for commercial success and off-pitch activity, alongside those professional services and businesses dedicated to supporting clubs and the game itself.

Attended by 450 leading executives, the awards are considered among the football business industry’s foremost accolades, attracting hundreds of entries yearly across the 16 categories.

Finance Director Simon Capper, Leicester City’s representative to accept the award on the night, said: “What we have learnt from Khun Vichai is that the fans matter, giving back to the community and to the people around you really does matter. Winning, but not winning at any cost, does matter.

The outpouring of support, love and compassion from the community in Leicester, from our fans and the football community has been truly humbling.

“So many clubs, individuals that know us, people we’ve never met, have written to the Club, sent us flowers and expressed their support. It shows what really matters about our sport, which is that we are a family, that we are one and that we are stronger together, which is what Khun Vichai genuinely stood for.

“I would like to say a genuine thank you, as it has been a moving and humbling experience and has made what has been an irreplaceable loss for us, bearable.”

Simon Burton, Co-founder of the Football Business Awards, said: “It’s our honour to be able to acknowledge Khun Vichai and the legacy he has created at Leicester City.

“His contribution is evident in the relationships he held with the players, management and back office staff, and the lasting impression he’s left on the fans and football community as a whole.

“He epitomised the values of community and family that are the foundations of our awards and we look forward to seeing Leicester City continue to thrive in his memory.”
