The left-back, who can also operate as a winger, arrived at Leicester aged 16 to begin a scholarship in the Academy and was awarded his first professional contract in 2013, before signing a new two-year deal this summer.
Elder will be eligible for Ipswich Town’s Emirates FA Cup fixture away to Accrington Stanley on Saturday 5 January and could make his league debut for Paul Lambert's side a week later at home to Rotherham United.
The 23-year-old’s development has also benefited from loan spells at Mansfield Town, where he made his professional debut in January 2015, and Peterborough United. He scored his first professional goal for the Posh, before gaining further experience on loan to Brentford, Barnsley and then Wigan Athletic.
The Australia youth international spent the whole of last season with the Latics, helping the side seal promotion back to the Championship as they clinched the League One title.
In total Elder made 33 appearances for Paul Cook’s side in all competitions last term, cementing a place in the starting 11 and becoming a key member of Wigan’s title-winning team.
