Impose Ourselves On The Game, Says Evans

Leicester City must attempt to dominate Sunday’s King Power Stadium encounter with Arsenal if they are to return to winning ways in the Premier League, according to Jonny Evans.

Under fellow Northern Irishman Brendan Rodgers, City have had the majority of possession in all but one of their seven fixtures, averaging over 55 per cent of the ball and accumulating 13 points in the process.

While the Foxes take on an Arsenal side that on Wednesday were defeated 3-1 by Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium, Evans knows the clash with the Gunners will be a challenging one to navigate.

“I think they’re a very good attacking side,” said Evans. “If you look at Arsenal over the years, they’ve always had great pace in their team and great intricate play around the box. I don’t think it’ll be any different [on Sunday].

Evans Notes Arsenal's Intricate Play

Leicester City and Northern Ireland defender Jonny Evans speaks to LCFC TV ahead of the visit of Arsenal to King Power Stadium on Sunday.

“They’ve got some world-class players and that’s the challenge for us – to try and keep them out. Hopefully, we can impose ourselves on the game like before and try and dominate to show them who we are.”

Recalling the last time City faced Arsenal – a 3-1 loss at Emirates Stadium in October – Evans felt his side fared well against an outfit that had previously won nine games in all competitions heading into the fixture.

It’s something that we can look back on, take into this next game and hopefully, we’ll do a better job of it.

He added: “I think that game was a difficult game on the night. We had actually started quite well in the game and had one or two chances, and then, in the second half, the game got away from us.

“We found ourselves down to 10 men [after Jamie Vardy went off ill] and we weren’t able to get back in the game. I think that night, we saw a good Arsenal side in the second half and how good they are, especially on the break and the speed of their play.

“It’s something that we can look back on, take into this next game and hopefully, we’ll do a better job of it.”
