The Club's youngsters had to battle to secure a point at Premier League 2 Division 1 champions Everton last Monday, following Darnell Johnson's 55th-minute red card.

City were able to register a 0-0 draw at Merseyrail Community Stadium, getting them off and running ahead of this Monday's visit of Blackburn on Filbert Way (7pm BST kick-off).

Speaking ahead of LCFC TV's live coverage - which starts at 6:45pm BST on Monday - Elliott expressed his belief that City's Under-23s can take a lot of positives from last week's outing.

Callum Wright To Feature On U23s Live This Monday

Watch a snippet of LCFC TV's feature interview with midfielder Callum Wright ahead of Monday's Development Squad broadcast.

"On the face of it, it was a good result," the former Scotland defender said. "They were up against the odds following the sending off, but it was a good performance.

"Going to a team like Everton, who have done really well at Under-23s level in their recent past, it was a good effort and Steve Beaglehole will be very pleased.

"It’s very early days. Whatever the result is, whether that’s first team or Under-23s, it won’t make too much of a difference at this early stage.

In the face of adversity at Everton, they had to roll their sleeves up and battle for the point.

"It won’t lay your foundations for the whole season, but it won’t do any harm if you’re getting some good early results."

Elliott was also impressed by the Development Squad's determination at Everton after they fought for just over half-an-hour in testing circumstances against an accomplished side.

"In the face of adversity at Everton, they had to roll their sleeves up and battle for the point," he added. "It wasn’t an ideal situation which they wouldn’t have been ready for, but they stepped up.

"They showed their capabilities as a squad ahead of the next game. All round, it was quite a positive outcome for them and they will feel in a positive frame of mind.

"I’m sure the players prefer King Power Stadium. They get decent crowds at Holmes Park, but you get an element of pride and you need to puff your chest out when you play at the main stadium."
