Fuchs Anticipates Tough Southampton Challenge

Left-back Christian Fuchs believes everybody associated with Leicester City realises their previous encounter with Southampton did not reflect the quality of the South Coast club's squad.

In October, the Foxes emerged from St. Mary's Stadium as 9-0 victors - the biggest-ever away Premier League win - but the Saints have recovered well over Christmas.

Ralph Hasenhüttl's men go into the clash having won four of their last five matches in all competitions and have risen to 12th, five points clear of the relegation zone and two adrift of the top half.

Fuchs, who has appeared in City's last four matches, described that previous clash as a 'once in a decade' phenomena and predicted Saturday's match will be a significant challenge.

Southampton Are In A Great Upswing, Says Fuchs

Christian Fuchs previews Leicester City's clash with Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.

Asked if Southampton have improved, he said: "Absolutely. Since then, they are in a great upswing and he’s (Hasenhüttl) doing really well. When he came in, he changed the system there.

"They’re a good squad. My fellow Austrian is doing really well. It was simply a game that probably happens once in a decade.

"To go away and win 9-0, nobody ever expected that and nobody will expect that ever to be repeated any time soon.

Everybody knows that it was a one-off. It doesn’t really reflect the quality of Southampton. They’re a much better side than what the result shows and we’re aware of that.

"There, we showed all the qualities that we have and that we continued to show in the games which followed.

"Everybody knows that it was a one-off. It doesn’t really reflect the quality of Southampton. They’re a much better side than what the result shows and we’re aware of that.

"The second we rely on ‘okay we won there 9-0 and it’s going to be easy’ then we’ll be on the wrong path and obviously Brendan [Rodgers] will never let that happen."

Nonetheless, that rain-lashed evening on the South Coast will be remembered fondly by Leicester supporters and Fuchs says his lasting memory of the game is a sense of disbelief.

"It was raining badly first of all," he continued. "The wind played a big part because, even though we were covered in the stands, we got soaking wet.

"I don’t really remember what happened inside the dressing room, or what the manager told us, but what I do remember is simply not believing what was happening.

"Literally every chance that we had was a goal, or almost every chance. I think we had the chance to score a couple more.

"It was unbelievable and just to be in the stadium, watching the players doing so well, made me very happy."
