City were beaten 3-0 on their first trip to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium following a sixth-minute own goal from James Justin and two strikes from former Foxes loanee Harry Kane.

Brendan Rodgers’ side had opportunities of their own in north London, going close through Wes Morgan, Jamie Vardy, Ayoze Pérez and debutant George Hirst, but they were unable to respond to Spurs’ three efforts in the first period.

George Hirst made his debut for the Foxes in north London, and came close to scoring late on.

Steve Walsh said: “We hit a brick wall in Hugo Lloris. He made some fantastic saves and they came out on top today. You have to accept the loss and results happen for a reason. It’s been a terrific season and a valiant attempt by Leicester City. We’ve beaten many records when you look back. We’ve made it into Europe, which is brilliant.”

All to play for

Iwan Roberts said: “If you cut the mistakes out today that happened in the first half, then it’s an even game and there’s nothing to separate the sides. As we know, football doesn’t work like that in the best league in the world. Every team is fighting for the same thing, but it’s still all to play for.”

Competing with the best

Matt Elliott said: “For these clubs – the regular ‘top six’, if you like – Europe is crucial, and they’re used to being at that level for the majority of the time. For Leicester to be competing against those teams, that’s some achievement in itself. That’s no small feat, that’s for sure. It’s a good place to be and they’re a good club to support.”

A ‘massive’ match on the horizon

Jamie Vardy has scored 23 Premier League goals for the Foxes this season.

Steve Walsh said: “The shape we play and the players that play on Sunday against Manchester United is going to be massive. We have to go and win that game now, and they have great momentum at the moment. It’s still there, and I’d love it if we do it. You can look at any permutation, but it’s about winning that game.”

Luke Thomas made his second Premier League appearance for City against Spurs.

Iwan Roberts said: “There are a few twists and turns, and Leicester have a game against Manchester United coming up. They’ve had two good cup runs, too, so overall, it’s been a good season with some good football being played. To still be in a chance for Champions League football going into the game is positive.”

Decisions on personnel and formation

Brendan Rodgers named an unchanged XI for the fixture at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Matt Elliott: “There’s a lot for Brendan Rodgers to mull over this week in terms of personnel and formation. Against Arsenal in the first half, they were sailing close to the wind and came unstuck against Tottenham today. The manager has a few decisions to make before the match against Manchester United.”
