King Power Stadium is the venue for the weekend’s Barclays Women’s Super League opener, a 3pm BST kick-off, with the Foxes aiming to get off to a good start in their second top-flight campaign.

Three players definitely out of contention for the visit of the Lilywhites are Hannah Cain, Lachante Paul and Jess Sigsworth. While all three are on the road to recovery, the first few games will come too soon for them to play a part.

Speaking in her pre-match press conference at Belvoir Drive on Thursday afternoon, Bedford revealed the current condition of the trio, who missed the majority of 2021/22 through injury.

“We still have three long-term rehabbers,” the manager commented to the assembled media. “They are still in their rehab process and hopefully will join us between now and Christmas at various points.”

We have no new injury concerns going into the weekend at this moment in time.

There is more positive news on the goalkeeper front, and in the rest of the team, however, with Kirstie Levell having recovered from the knee injury which meant she has not played a competitive game since November.

City’s manager added: “Kirstie has been back in since the start of pre-season so she’s fully fit. We have no new injury concerns going into the weekend at this moment in time. Since the last few signings that came through the door, I think our training numbers have been up at 21.

“That’s been brilliant from a player meeting and an on-the-pitch perspective that we’ve managed to have that number of players on the training pitch over the last two weeks. We feel like we’re in a good place in terms of the squad, going into this weekend.”
